Easter Bunny Crunch – a quick and easy alternative to the humble Easter Egg

Life happens where you just don’t get the time to go to the shops ( honestly, I sometimes don’t know how food gets into our fridge some weeks – it’s all a blur), and sometimes you just happen to have a very clingy little baba on your arm, and that’s where she stays – regardless of any notions that you may have about Easter baking and prepping. But, reality is, you still have tons of nieces and nephews and buddies that you wish to gift with at least a small token of Easter bunny-ish-ness.

Well, my solution was to grab what I did have in the cupboard. And that was granola (muesli), raisins, and other little yummy snacky-type things. I know, there was relatively quite a bit of sugar in there, but breastfeeding gets my sweet tooth jacked up real high, and thus, we were NEVER short of goodies then. I have zero resistance when I breastfeed and it’s an unashamed free- for-all for me, I’m afraid. But it was a good thing too, otherwise I would’ve been screwed for Easter that year (2014).

Also, I had a few baby food jars stored away ( from Morgan-Lee’s time) – yes I’m a hoarder of note, but in my defence, I ALWAYS use the stuff I store. (when that actually is, is another question.)

And to be honest, I think these little buggers turned out quite cute for the amount of effort required. Even if I do say so myself.

This Easter Bunny Crunch can be chowed down as a breakfast treat with milk, as an alternative to their regular porridge. Or used as dry snack for anytime, without the milk. Either way, they are sure to be a win with most kids, as it caters for those who like soft AND crunchy, those who like only crunchy (they can just toss out the soft marshmellows, milkbottles and raisins) or those who only like the soft bits (and toss out the granola and smarties).

All you would therefore need to make these cute bunny crunch dudes:
Ps. You can make the sugar content as high or as low as you want with these jars, since you control how much you put in there.

    1. Material (cut into small squares – to cover the babyfood jars)
    2. Baby food jars – as many as you need
    3. Muesli/granola
    4. Marshmellows
    5. Raisins
    6. Pan-raisins
    7. Smarties
    8. Milk bottles
    9. Googly eyes – 2 per jar
    10. Fuzzy balls (tiny ones found at most craft stores)
    11. Some cardstock (whiskers)
    12. Print out of Bunny ear template I found here.

Method:

-Clean your baby jars out- duh. Make sure they are completely dry before using.
-Simply fill the jar with enough granola while still leaving space to add the rest of your goodies (the amount of which is up to you.
-Close up your jar, mix it up, or shake it up.

-Add your googly eyes with craft glue.
-Cut strips of cardstock that will be crossed over each other (meeting in the middle) for the whiskers – 2 or 3 strips per jar. Paste using craft glue.
-Paste fluffy craft ball in the centre of the whiskers, where they meet to form the bunny nose.

    – Take your square of material and secure it over the lip of jar with an elastic. You could “go all out here”, and actually cut the square into a circle using craft scissors, but the square is also fine.
    – Cut out bunny ears print out and stick into the elastic to stand up.

    Et Voila! Easter Bunny Crunch!
