The cuteness of Halloween…and the one where we got it all wrong!

Welcome, and no, you’re not stuck in a time warp. Yes Halloween was about two weeks ago. You’ve just stumbled upon my own little blog ground hog day, where Im playing catch up on all the little bits and bobs that happened whilst on my little blog break. So stick around, and join me as I reminisce on one of the most fun and silly family events in our home…Halloween 2016

There was a mad rush to get home this year – Halloween being in the week and all this year. But we needed to beat traffic, cram in some form of nutritious dinner before the sugar fest of trick=treating was about to ensue! Our neighbourhood had recently (and much to my Halloween loving self’s joy) finally hopped onto the halloween bandwagon and started doing trick or treating in the masses for the past three years now. And every year we are ready for them, when they ring that bell – always have been. (I remember 2008 we even had sound effects as the door opened for them!) But this year, since we wisely decided against our annual Halloween party, we decided to join them on the streets instead.

So the excitement was high, and the expectations were even higher. The costumes were sorted, and we were owning them. Just a pity then that we didn’t get the neighbourhood memo to move the date of actual Halloween. Say what? Come again? Move Halloween? Who even does that?!

Apparently our neighbourhood does – we were a week early!! YIKES!

There was me with two adorably cute sets of googoo eyes filled with wonder and anticipation staring back at me, expecting all that I had built trick-or treating up to be. So onward we pushed and rang door bells anyway.

And whilst there were mostly none who were ready (they apparently got the memo that we didn’t), we kept up the vibes nonetheless. Fortunately for me, our girls can bring the party without much nudging. Although, having one of their grown cousins with didn’t hurt one bit. (in our family, it’s “for instant joy, just add cousins!”)

Also on a side note: it’s odd to think that at our very first Halloween party Mike and I threw for our nieces and nephews back in the day, it was that that very same grown cousin that was helping me shepard them along this night, that was but a little baby girl herself, ringing our neighbours’ doorbells.
Oh, Time, what’s the rush here, buddy??
(My niece with my new and possibly fave stockings right now)

Also, can I just break away quickly from story teling, to point out just how freakin adorable kiddums are in halloween costumes?! I mean, come on!!! Just look:

They’re not always into the mamarazi…

Ok, wait…no comment on this one. Just no comment…:)

But smally over here couldnt get enough of her costume – she’s been set on this costume for 3 months already. Sister knows what she wants!

However, Morgy liked the idea of coming back to trick or treat at our house. I think it was just a well concocted plan and her best bet at getting that treat bag of her’s fuller. I was game, of course…I mean we had a massive stash back home just waiting. What I wasn’t prepared for though, was the cuteness that I was to be faced with as I opened that door to my “surprise” trick-or-treaters….There, greeted by the most adorable darn bat and ghost my two eyes have ever done laid upon, with the sweetest littlelest voices hollering “twick-or-tweat” through the broadest milk teeth smiles. I almost ruined the moment by bursting out into happy tears. But Morgy shoved her treat bag closer and shook it to remind me to hold back the sap- at least long enough to get the goods she came for.

(what I wouldnt have given to have that very moment recorded on tape.)

Thereafter, it was a Halloween fair indoors (Thanks South Easter for once more forcing out outdoor dinners back inside.)

That being said, it was actually a really good day for us all… it made for a little more extra family time in, as opposed to with the crowds, we satisfied our dress-up needs, got a few thumbs-up’s, “cools” and “awesomes” from our neighbours for our Family costume theme..(and I gotta admit, I was this close to blasting the Ghost buster theme on my phone as we trawled the streets for candy.) There were our usual halloween-themed treats and dinner, and we still managed a decent-ish bedtime for school the next day.

Satisfied kids, imaginations stimulated, emo-mom-feel tank topped up, and more fun and sweet moments wrapped up in the memory banks…

However, next year…I’m thinking our annual Halloween party will be back on the cards, for sure. Who knows, maybe even my original Halloween Plans for this year will still tickle my fancy? (I mean, who isn’t a fan of that particular theme, right?!) In the mean time, I’ll be flipping through these over and over…

Trust us to turn Halloween into a romantic affair…
Of course, Mike had to be Venkman – smart mouth!
Slimer close up (just as creepy and silly as in the movies):

Here’s to more ridiculously cute costumed little people …Happy Halloween! X

    • I know right and I had built it up so much for Morgan-Lee that she was asking where are the other kids! (I kept my friends pix of their neighbourhoods away from her eyes!)
And then the next weekend whule we were in the thick of Parkers bday prep, the trick or treaters came in the masses! And there was morgan, fresh from her nap, bewildered as to why we werent trick or treating with them!
And yes, I remember you told me about that- so cool. Nice to see the halloween fun spreading.
